About the Tasks

About the Tasks

NYC educators and national experts are developing Common Core-aligned tasks embedded in a unit of study to support schools in implementing the Citywide Instructional Expectations. These resources include task descriptions, teacher-annotated student work representing a range of performance levels, rubrics to assess student work and instructional supports including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. Educators may choose to adopt these resources in their entirety or adapt the materials to best address students' diverse needs.Click HERE

Tons of Assessments!

Math Landing Mathlanding (ML) is designed with the elementary math specialist/coach/mentor and teacher in mind. It's a dynamic resource to help support the professional development needs of elementary educators in building mathematical knowledge and instructional practice. The site is created to provide organized access to high quality resources and tools that support teaching and learning of elementary mathematics.

Lesson Plans

The new English Standards of Learning Enhanced Scope and Sequence will be published in fall 2012. The Enhanced Scope and Sequence sample lesson plans are aligned with the 2010 English SOL. In preparation for the new online writing assessments, several of the writing lessons from each grade band are provided. These materials are intended as examples of ways the understandings, knowledge, and skills might be presented to students in sample lessons that have been aligned with the new standards.

Elementary Reading Early Literacy Instructional Videos – demonstrations by Virginia teachers of early literacy instructional strategies and activities

In this set of video vignettes, Virginia elementary teachers demonstrate vocabulary and comprehension strategies that can be used in elementary classrooms to promote students’ vocabulary development and comprehension skills. Each of the strategies presented is taken from the Enhanced Scope and Sequence for English Standards of Learning. The strategies and activities presented in the vignettes may be adapted and used with students at all grade levels.

Thinkfinity provides K-12 math lesson plans and materials aligned to the Common Core.  On the State Standards search engine stroll down to“North Carolina Common Core State Standards” on the pull-down menu; and then select your grade level and mathematics.

California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics Resources (CaCCSS-M)strengthens teachers’ content knowledge to teach the standards by focusing on the following five domains: K-2 Number Sense and Place Value, Fractions from a Number Line Approach, Model with Mathematics, Transformational Geometry, and High School Mathematical Modeling.  These high-quality resources (e.g., articles, books, videos, technology, problems, existing curriculum, presentation outlines) are regularly updated.

K-5 Math Teaching Resources

Welcome to K-5 Math Teaching Resources!
This site provides an extensive collection of free resources, math games, and hands-on math activities aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Our math printables are suitable for use in math centers, small group or whole class settings. Instructions for each activity are presented in large print on a task card in child-friendly language to enable students to work on tasks independently after a brief introduction to the task. All files are in PDF format and can be accessed using Adobe Reader.

Also available are Math Journal Tasks (K-5), Math Vocabulary Resources (Gds. 2-5) and Math Projects (Gds. 3-5) for teachers looking for ways to support students' math writing skills while developing key concepts and skills. See our E-Books page for more information on these resources.

Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Content
Explore materials and tasks you can use immediately with your students. Inside Mathematics has aligned our tasks and assessment resources with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Content. Note that you can make use of these standards through searching by grade level as well as by progression, so we have provided two routes through these tasks and other resources.

Public Lessons
These "public lessons" (a term from Lesson Study practices) have been developed by the Noyce Foundation and are taught by practicing teachers and professional developers. These lessons have been extensively field-tested in multiple settings and refined over time, and are generally presented to an audience of participating students and observing teachers. Most draw on learning tasks developed by the Mathematics Assessment Resource Service (MARS).

FLIPBOOKS

The Common Core “FlipBooks” are a compilation of research, “unpacked” standards from many states, instructional strategies and examples for each standard at each grade level. The intent is to show the connections to the Standards of Mathematical Practices for the content standards and to get detailed information at each level.
Resources used: Common Core State Standards, NCTM’s Focus In Grades K-8 series, Student Centered Mathematics by J. VandeWalle, Arizona, Ohio and North Carolina department of education “unpacking” of the standards. This “Flip Book” is intended to help teachers understand what each standard means in terms of what students must know and be able to do. It provides only a sample of instructional strategies and examples. The goal of every teacher should be to guide students in understanding & making sense of mathematics.
